About Leigh Decorte's family and ancestors
Please sign in to see more. HI there and welcome to my family history site. I have been researching my family tree now for about 15 years plus and plan on doing a whole lot more. The last names of Nosworthy/Norsworthy, Caunter/ Counter, McCordic, Grant are all on my Mom's side of the family. So I have roots in England, Scotland, and Ireland. On my Dad's side his parents both came over to Canada in 1928 from Belgium so that is where the last names of Decorte and Saelen come from.
In 1983 we had a family reunion on the Norsworthy side so over the years there has been more additions to the family. The farm on which I grew up on has been in my Mom's side for over 125 years. As my Great Grandpa worked with the Canadian Pacific Rail and found and purchased the land. The youngest daughter that he had was the first white child born in the area and that was in the year 1886 so I found that rather interesting.
My Great Great Grandpa and his wife came over to Canada from England with their eleven children ages ranged from 20 to 2. The stamina that they must have had to do that. Their children once grown married and scattered all over North America.
So I know that I have distant relatives in Florida, in California and more than likely in various other states as well as here in Canada.
So check out my site and feel free to give me any feedback or thoughts that you may have on it. Who knows we may be connected somehow. I have found that family history searching is like one big jigsaw puzzle each piece somehow fits.
A perfect example of this is the Bickford family line. It goes like this Nathaniel Bickford of Islington married a Anne Smerdon. Anne Smerdon was the daughter of Robert Smerdon of Knighton and Anne Burte. Also Anne Smerdon was the sister of Robert Smerdon born around 1631. Robert Smerdon married Ruth Townsend and they had a daughter named Alice born in 1711. Alice married a man by the name of William Cleave and they had a daughter named Ann born in 1751. Anne married a man by the name of William Nosworthy they had a son name John born in 1777. John married Anne Brinning and they also had a son named John born in 1809. That John married Mary Caunter and they had a son named John Charles (my Great Grandpa)in 1841. John Charles Norsworthy (it is when they came over to Canada that the last name of Nosworthy changed to Norsworthy) married Margaret Montgomery and they had a son ( my Grandpa) Walter Scott Norsworthy born in 1879.
It is confusing but interesting at the same time.
I also have to give a great big thank you to a fellow Norsworthy researcher by the name of Anne Brooks. Anne is also a descendant of the Norsworthy/ Nosworthy line and has done a lot of research on the families history. It is with her help and research that I have been able to access most of the Norsworthy family history. She also has set up a website and if you want to see it feel free to contact me and I well point you in the correct direction.
Another person that I have to send a huge thank you to is Barbara Fletcher Ledbetter as with Barbs help I was able to find information on Mariah Fletcher's side of the family Mariah was my 3rd Great Grandma. Mariah married Robert McCordic and one of their sons, Nathaniel, was my Great Great Grandpa. Nathaniel McCordic married Margaret Campbell and they had a daughter Sarah Elizabeth and Sarah married a man by the name of James Grant. James and Sarah had nine children one being my Grandma Hettie Belle Grant.
